“Every contact with the admissions office was more and more impressive. First, they responded very quickly, within hours. Other schools took weeks to get any response. Each contact they provided was prompt, professional and offered additional confirmation of their validity.”

Who we are
While Harcum College is not a medical school, it has spent a notable history
closely watching the medical milestones reached in its neighboring Philadelphia.
Concurrently, the college has cultivated a specialty in the allied health sciences,
ranging from nursing and dental hygienics to radiologic technology and physical
therapy assisting. A logical progression to the college's evolution was to begin
exposing the vast number of healthcare professionals and prospective medical
students in its area and nationwide to a new concept in medical education, beginning
with the "Introduction to Medicine" course.
The curriculum is provided by Oceania University of Medicine, the world’s
first distance learning medical school, using the same course materials presented
to students during their initial term as its campus on the South Pacific island of Samoa.
Successful completion of the “Introduction to Medicine” course
allows a qualified student to transfer the credit to Oceania for advance-standing
enrollment in the school’s MD program.
Oceania medical students take their pre-clinical courses using a computer-based
curriculum directed by online professors, student discussion boards, and
ono-on-one mentoring from local physicians. Like many of today's traditional
medical schools, the program uses problem-based learning, which integrates the
basic laboratory sciences - biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, etc. - into
clinical medicine and diagnosis through the study of detailed case scenarios and
their accompanying patient histories.
Upon completion of pre-clinical studies (the first ten courses, Intro to
Medicine is number one), Oceania students are eligible to take the United
States Medical Licensing Exam Step 1 (USMLE). Once the USMLE Step 1 is
completed and passed, students begin clinical training at one of several
teaching sites located in Samoa, Australia and regional U.S. sites.
Oceania students are also eligible to enter the U.S. Match program
for post-graduate medical residencies upon meeting the school's graduation
requirements, including the USMLE Step 2 CK (Clinical Knowledge) and CS
(Clinical Skills) exams.
